Description

This is an example of a nickel plated Griswold No 8 cast iron skillet that dates from 1906-1912. Almost every one of these plated skillets you will encounter has wear to its plating. When they do, they are not the prettiest thing to look at. But just as fine in quality as the non plated versions. The cooking surface, while being very smooth to the touch, has a very fine etched feel when gliding your fingers over the surface. It sits near flat with one sheets of printer paper slipped under one side of the pan to stop movement on a polished granite surface. No chips, cracks or repairs and does not spin. Test for flatness of skillet. With the skillet resting on a polished granite surface, press down all along the top rim searching for movement. If movement is found, slip pieces of printer paper under one edge of the until pot stops moving. This item was stripped down to bare metal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. This process ensures the removal of all residue from previous use making it safe to use once more. The item is lightly seasoned with one round of Crisco at 450 for 1 hour. This item was photographed in very bright light to highlight fine details. Under these lighting conditions, items may take on a brown color. Items are much darker under normal light. Photos are part of the item’s description. Please use them for a clearer understanding of items’ overall condition. If you have any questions, please let me know.
