Description

This is a classic No 8 Martin Stove & Range No 8 cast iron skillet in fully restored condition. This was manufactured sometime between 1920 to the 1950s. This is one of the skillets that has an almost polished feel to not just the inside, but the outside surfaces as well. The cooking surface very fine patches of etching from corrosion and very light utensil scores. These are undetectable as you glide your fingers over a near glass smooth surface. Early gas stove had a very high sulfur content and this would react with cast iron to create "sulfur pitting". Sulfuric acid would form and would erode the metal. The bottom of this pan has a patch of sulfur erosion. This does not effect the performance of the pan. Six sheets of printer paper slipped under one edge stops movement on a granite surface. No chips, cracks or repairs and does not spin. Test for flatness of pan. With the pan resting on a polished granite surface, press down all along the top rim of the pan searching for movement. If movement is found, slip pieces of printer paper under one edge of the pan until the pan stops moving. This item was stripped down to bare metal using collector approved lye bath and electrolysis treatments. This process ensures the removal of all residue from previous use making it safe to use once more. The item is lightly seasoned with one round of Crisco at 450 for 1 hour. This item was photographed in very bright light to highlight fine details. Under these lighting conditions, items may take on a brown color. Items are much darker under normal light. Photos are part of the item’s description. Please use them for a clearer understanding of items’ overall condition. If you have any questions, please let me know
