Description
This antique pottery pillow vase was made by Roseville Pottery about 1905 as part of the Rozane Royal line. It features a ruffled top edge, two handles and a flattened side profile. It is hand painted on one side with orange-toned fuchsia flowers on top of the rich deep brown glossy glaze. It is in very good condition with no chips from use or cracks in the body. There are no chips on the upper ruffled edge. There is faint all-over surface crazing. There is a small missed coloration spot on the bottom ridge that corresponds with an indentation. Since it is under the glaze, it must have been a chip that happened at the factory before firing. Please see the pictures. It measures 9 1/2 inches wide from handle edge to handle edge and 7 3/8 inches high, which seems to be smaller than the very few other examples of this rare piece that I’ve found. Maybe it was a sample, glaze coloration test piece or a prototype? There is no artist signature or makers mark.
