Description

Makuzu Kozan (18421916) was a Japanese ceramist. He was appointed artist to the Japanese Imperial household and was one of the major potters of the Meiji Era. From 1876 to 1913, Kzan won prizes at 51 exhibitions, including the World's Fair and the National Industrial Exhibition. This is a particularly rare piece among Makuzu Kozan's works. A similar piece can be found at the Kamakura Kitchoan Museum of Art. This antique work of art depicts a lion dance, with children peeking out from inside and out of the lion's mouth, making it a very elaborate piece. There is some slight damage, such as two of the children's feet and a piece of one of the lion's ears. There is a Makuzu seal on the inside. Although there is some damage, you will hardly ever see a piece of this age and quality on the market . Don't miss the opportunity to own this unique piece! Please view all images.
