Description

Here is a bright and cheerful Japanese totai shippo bottle vase (cloisonné enamel artworks which a ceramic, earthenware or porcelain body or foundation is utilized). The overall condition is good except for a restoration of the mouth. The bottle vase is in good antique condition except for the restoration of the mouth; please refer to the close-up images provided for your. Otherwise the body of the bottle vase is in excellent condition considering its age; there are very little areas of pitting and enamel skipping which are all typical of this rare technique. The highlight of the design are the hovering insects, one of them a dragonfly, a particularly admired and esteemed insect. The base is signed with a eight character kanji signature, “ Nip - pon Shi - po Kai - sha Sei-zo ,” which translates to “Made by the Japan cloisonne company.” Please refer to the detailed images provided for you. I purchased this bottle vase as specialists agree that this technique was made for a very short time-span, making these examples fairly rare, especially with the highly respected Shippo kaisha workshop signature! Overall, a strong example of a very rare technique that was only produced for a relatively short time. The height of the bottle vase is approximately 6.5 inches The width of the body is about 2.5 inches. Due to the fragile nature of cloisonné enamels, this item will be double boxed and packed with tremendous care.
