Description
To begin with, seller wonders if he owns the only example of this vase blown in clear and colorless glass?? Next, he admits that to capture the clarity, brilliance, and shape of such a piece in photographs is challenging for an amateur. Even to describe its shape!! From one perspective this petite vase is heart-shaped, from another, teardrop or pear-shaped. In either case, however, the vase is water clear colorless glass --NOT gray or pale blue or smoky, as some others seller has found here--and so any appearance to the contrary in the photos is the result of reflected light. In these aspects of form and execution it is so rare as to not be found elsewhere at the moment. Seller would appreciate learning if other colorless vases of this design and size exist. He would have you note that its artist, Per Lutken, is mentioned as a glass artist in the 1960 Encyclopedia Brittanica. This art glass vase is signed Holmegaard and bears the signature initials mark of Per Lutken in the middle of what the seller supposes is the year date-- 1957 . So this is definitely a mid-century modern item! At the same time, seller does not know the vase design or pattern name ; his research here suggests it may be "Rondo" (15729) or "Minuet" (15734). This particular vase stands 3 inches (75 mm) tall and 3 inches in diameter at its widest. The top hole in the vase measures 3/4 inches (18 mm) in diameter, so does not readily accept a candle although seller long ago used it to do so. Object weight is 13.9 ounces (394 grams). As mentioned, all the colors, streaks, clouds, and lines that may be seen in the photos are mere reflections; the glass is clear and colorless. In condition the vase is nearly perfect --no water clouding, spots, bubbles, inclusions, chips, dings, or sharp edges anywhere. The base does not even show shelf wear. Please note , however, that using magnification, and upon close inspection, seller has found 3 exceedingly fine and small surface scratches, each a mere 2-3 mm long ; one of these is at the top, outside the hole, the others appear on the midsection circumference (seller attempted but could achieve no photos of either scratch). To seller's thinking these in no way detract, and are of no consequence to the display or enjoyment of the piece. Vase is without label or box, and must of course be offered here "as-is."
