Description
Extrarodinarily rare antique blue opalescent straight-sided cylindrical celery vase made by AJ Beatty & Sons Glass Co. in its famous pattern known as "Beatty Rib," circa 1889. This striking vertical rib pattern came in white and blue opalescent and in several different shapes and pieces. This celery vase measures about 6 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" in diameter, and has a few issues. There is a 1 /2" chip in one of the ribs about 2/3 of the way down. There is also a good amount of utensil scratches throughout the interior which can be seen from the outside, as shown in the photos, as well as a few black scuff mark type spots on the base (which obviously can not be seen when the vase is upright). This piece obviously got a lot of use Still, this may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire this rare vase, as I have never seen one before. The other interesting thing about this piece is that is an icy shade of blue as opposed to the typical turquoise blue seen in the other blue opalescent pieces in this pattern. I placed it next to one of the small bowls in the photo for comparison. I had the pleasure of purchasing an outstanding collection of Beatty Rib at a recent estate auction, including some very rare pieces, so please check my other listings if you collect this gorgeous old pattern, and always feel free to ask any questions! I am always happy to combine shipping costs.
