Description
For sale from our personal collection an amazing pair of massive Royal Doulton Art Nouveau / Art Deco vases. Our research turned up one ginger jar (without lid) in the same pattern with a 2014 auction estimate of USD $800- $1,200 (it says very rare). The jar is 9.5" high We also found a single 13" vase also in Imperial Chinese Yellow with the same floral pattern but flamingos instead of hummingbirds that sold at auction in 2014 for $500. Here we have a magnificent pair and they are very much larger. See last two photos. Both pieces carry the Lion and Crown mark introduced to mark the grant of the Royal Warrant by King Edward VII. This particular mark was used for the period 1902 -1922, which would align with the period in which Art Nouveau an d Art Deco at the height of its popularity. It was replaced in 1923 with a mark that excluded the Crown (See notes on marks in last set of photos). Doulton made vases in two different locations: Lambeth (a district of South London) and Burselm (a town in Staffordshire). These vases were made in Burslem. There is an incised mark on the bottom rim of one vase. See last photo. It is somewhat difficult to read but the information we have from a Royal Doulton lover is that the mark is --2-0-20. The incised mark suggests a data of manufacture of 1920, probably February 1920. This is consistent with the mark. Both vases are in wonderful condition with no chips or hairline cracks. No obvious crazing. With their bright colors, beautiful design motifs and size these vases are what is known as "statement pieces." The dimensions are as follows: Height: 18 inches. Width at widest part of vase: 6 inches. Shipping in the United Sates will be $125. We double box all breakable items to ensure they arrive safely. These will need to be in polystyrene box and carefully separated. We believe we have the pieces in our collection fairly priced for collectors given the rarity and condition of most of them We tend not to make offers to watchers but almost all of our pieces have a best offer option. We do welcome fair offers. If you are interested we do encourage you make an offer.
